UK-based music-maker
a shoutout to introverts.

Joshua Mbewe – professionally known as Laxcity – is a Sheffield, UK-based, Ndola, Zambia-born artist and producer whose imaginative music draws on textured and intricate soundscapes to create immersive electronica with emotional resonance.

Laxcity’s eponymous EP and its follow-up Introspection were officially released in 2017. His debut LP, Catharsis, issued at the end of the next year, is a moving project coloured by orchestral influencers that would set the stage for continued blends of high-octane electronic music and oftentimes wistful, ambient and cinematic scores. A pair of 6-track EPs, Purity (2019) and Disconnect (January, 2021) would follow, the latter landing him the cover of Spotify’s Dance Rising, its focus track “Grateful” reaching 700K streams on that platform alone in the first 3 months after its release.

Newly independent, 2021 saw him release 2018 – 2021 (mixtape) – a time capsule that captures the now-unmistakable Laxcity sound, with its whirring synths and sonic polish – a collaborative single with Moore Kismet; play Porter Robinson’s “Secret Sky” and tour with DROELOE. In December came ‎”melodies ‎from ‎heaven,” a lush tribute to Josh's Christian upbringing and his first foray into analog synths.

Laxcity's first headline show took place in January, 2022, in London. His debut Canadian tour is in June followed by Ireland and UK dates with Slow Magic in October.
